Smoke and Mirrors in a Crystal Ball

The Unnameable is a collaborative project established in 2004 and conceived by Jason Gringler and Martin Kuchar as an intellectual break from their personal projects which often consisted of non-reprsentational imagery devoid of any obvious narrative. By diverging from rigid abstract employments we found an area of mutual entertainment within the absurd and its constituents, namely the bizarre, the offensive and sometimes the iconoclastic. Experimenting with varied themes ranging within popular culture such as sex, mortality, violence and futuristic phantasms involving robots and anarchistic transgression. With these subjects the Unnameable repeatedly press against the bounderies of good taste through a cut and paste approach to image making equivalent to a lecherous visual anti-orgasm. The current medium of choice is mixed media, pencil and marker, ink and acrylic on paper.

The Unnameable have exhibited works at Feature Inc in NYC, and will be featured in the project space at The Proposition, NYC, in March, 2008.
